Wedding Bar Guide

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much champagne is just right.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Cheers to the happy couple! But what do you choose and how many glasses, bottles and bubbles do you need to pull off that perfect party? To determine the right amount of the right stuff at the right price, consider the number and preferences of your guests, the type of party/reception, and even variables like the time of year. Obviously you need to have a good estimate of how many adults will attend the party, but it’s also very helpful to know if they are beer drinkers, or do most prefer wine? Do you plan to offer cocktails? If so, do you want a full bar or is one signature cocktail sufficient? Focusing on beer and a refreshing white wine are preferable in the summer months, while a full-bodied red wine is a good bet in the cooler months. The professionals at Wagner Wine & Spirits suggest the following:

1 – 750 ml bottle of wine = 5 glasses

1 – 750 ml bottle of champage = 6 flutes

1 – 750 ml liquor = about 18 drinks

Most guests will consume two drinks during the first hour of the party, and one drink during subsequent hours. If you serve wine, beer, and cocktails, you can anticipate that 50% of your guests will prefer wine, 30% beer, and 20% cocktails. If it’s wine and beer only, plan on 60% wine sippers and 40% beer drinkers. If you have a four-hour reception for 100 people, and serve wine and beer only, you would need five cases of wine (perhaps two red, two white, and one champagne) and 200 beers (8 ½ cases).
